The longest running mobile happy hour in the South

The South's longest running happy hour that happens to be for LGBT and allies alike.

About Us

Takeover Friday was born fourteen years ago by Dan Mauney, Rodney Tucker and Rodney Hines as a way for friends to get together in a social setting. Word spread quickly and the group grew from 3 to 50 within a few weeks. The name was coined, an email list was created and the fun began.

Therapy Café, Tutto Mondo and Blue Restaurants were three of the original TOF locations. With all the excitement of organized fun, the email list surpassed the Evite specifications and the Takeover Friday website was launched.  Events such as Westin Charlotte, Aria, Osso, Mint Museum, Bechtler Museum, various plays, pre-concert events, after-parties and pool parties have been several of the jammed packed events since the conception of Takeover.

Over the past thirteen years +, Takeover has been co-hosted by an all-star local celebrity list including Rodney Tucker, Rodney Hines, Tom Feldman and Chip Perry.  Presently, Mauney continues to coordinate and produce the TOF events.

This year, TOF plans to take the mobile social happy hour bigger and better in 2015.  Expect new venues, new ideas, new co-hosts and a new energy around Charlotte’s largest mobilizing group.

Meet the Founder

Heralding from North Carolina, Dan Mauney has called Charlotte home since 1991.  His career has been spent primarily in the retail industry focusing on sales and merchandising for various companies including a large retailer, specialty stores and has owned his own stores for more than a decade.  He is well known as Dan the Shoe Man since most of his career has been in the footwear industry.

During a short break between retail store ownership, Mauney launched Dan the Man Productions: a merchandising, marketing, social media and event planning company maintaining an impressive list of local and national clients.  Today, he maintains a vibrant roster of clients and caters specifically to evolving business needs.

In the local LGBT community, he has been very involved with local non-profits including Regional AIDS Interfaith Network, Time Out Youth, Cystic Fibrosis and the Human Rights Campaign.  His work with HRC has included but not limited to serving as HRC NC Gala Co-Chair in 2007 and 2012, Federal Club Member, various volunteer roles and most recently is serving as one of the Board of Governors. Dan has collectively raised more than one million dollars and awareness for local organizations through Gay Bingo, BRIEF, AIDS Walk, and the local HRC Galas.

In his spare time, he stalks Britney Spears, spends his time with his mini dachshund, Spike and has taken up a new passion for healthy living and nutrition.
