A Gala Concert: Entertaining, Inspiring & Unforgettable
Music's unique power to connect and inspire will be on full display August 23rd when nationally acclaimed songstress Ann Hampton Callaway joins a 100-voice chorus and orchestra to present Sing for the Cure, A Gala Concert. This one-of-a-kind program raises funds for Komen Charlotte and honors Carolina Breast Friends, Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center and the GoJenGo Foundation.
About Tony-nominated Singer Ann Hampton Callaway, one reviewer wrote, “her voice should be patented as a musical instrument itself.” Her rapport with the audience is as compelling as her four-octave range and her fresh take on the American songbook. She’s made her mark as a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host and producer. A born entertainer, her unique singing style blends jazz and traditional pop, making her a mainstay in concert halls, theaters and jazz clubs as well as in the recording studio, on television, and in film. Callaway is a Platinum Award winning writer whose songs are featured on seven of Barbra Streisand's recent CDs. The only composer to have collaborated with Cole Porter, she has also written songs with Carole King, Rolf Lovland and Barbara Carroll to name a few.
After Ms. Callaway’s solo performance in the first half, audience members will be treated to a unique choral work called Sing for the Cure, A Proclamation of Hope. Commissioned by the Komen Foundation in 2000, this powerful piece uses stories from survivors to take listeners on a musical voyage from cancer’s first arrival through the humor, strength, hope and healing that follow. Ms. Callaway will carry much of the solo work in Sing for the Cure.
Though the ticket price is low, the entertainment value is guaranteed to be sky high for this gala concert!
